Autoimmune Disease

The current treatments for many autoimmune diseases include the systemic use of anti-inflammatory drugs and potent immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory agents. In recent years, researchers have contemplated the use of stem cells to treat autoimmune disorders.

Diabetes

Stem cells hold tremendous potential as a source of insulin-producing cells. Through the use of stem cells, insulin-secretion in response to glucose may be restored in the patients with diabetes. These procedures may help patients who don’t respond to typical drug treatment.

Alzheimer’s Disease

With the onset of Alzheimer’s disease, information transfer at the synapses starts to break down, and the number of synapses decreases significantly. In the last few years, hopes were raised that cell replacement therapy would provide cure by compensating the lost neuronal systems.
